Children's Ministries

Our goal for the children of St. John’s is that they experience a true Christian community. All of our programs aim at creating ties of love and mutual appreciation for children as full members of the church.

On Sunday mornings, Christian nursery care is provided from 10:00 until the children join their parents for Communion.

Church School begins with pre-kindergarten and continues through 6th or 7th Grade. Communion instruction takes place during Second Grade.

At the end of Church School youth will start the Journey to Adulthood program (see Youth Programs) which consists of three 2-year segments: Rite 13, J2A and YAC. Confirmation will take place between Rite 13 and J2A. Additional instruction for Confirmation takes place towards the end of the Rite 13 program.

Sunday mornings also include practice with the children’s choirs, the Cherub Choir and the older St. Nicholas’ Choir. Older children who wish to sing with the senior choir may do so; it means coming to practice on a week day evening.

Children’s programs are planned and overseen by the Children’s Ministries Committee, which consists of approximately eight adults, who meet once a month from September through May.

Family Activities are planned by the Children’s Ministries Committee throughout the year. Ongoing activities that have been initiated are a Camp-out, a Haunted Woods Party, St. Nick’s Night, Valentine Bingo, Operation Care Box for soldiers, Fireside Eucharist, Cookie Baking Party, and Parent’s Night Out.
